How to Prevent Back Pain While Working From Home

Back pain is not exclusive to jobs involving heavy physical labor. At Oxford Rehabilitation Center, we have seen plenty of patients who have suffered injuries while working from home in Philadelphia. Too much sitting can be almost as dangerous as too much lifting. Here is how you can make sure your next visit with our chiropractors is just a check-up.

Preventing Back Pain While Working From Home

Pace yourself. We know, when you are in the groove, it is difficult to pull yourself away from the screen. But if you take a five-minute break every twenty-five minutes or so, and then get up and move around a bit, you can do your body a lot of good.

Stay hydrated. Water serves a lot of functions in your body. One of those functions is to act as a lubricant for joints. That includes your spine. Think of it like motor oil. A typical adult needs around four quarts per day, so keep the water handy.

Ease into physical activity. Exercise is important, but springing immediately from sitting to jogging or bicycling is going to cause damage. Ease into it. Do some light warm-ups, stretch, and get yourself ready. Don’t just jump up out of your seat.

Get enough sleep. You are working from home, so you are probably making your own hours. Your body needs time to recharge, so make sure you are getting eight hours a night. If you are tossing and turning, plan for a nap later in the day.
