Peer Support Group for Injured Workers

Oxford Rehabilitation Center Philadelphia, PA

Support Group

The large information gap that exists for people with injuries creates the need to seek out others with similar injuries and to find help and resources. The desire for a regular meeting develops in the community and one or more persons then initiate the process of organizing meetings.

In August of 2007, that is exactly what we did. We organized a small group of injured workers who were on Workmen's Compensation in the state of Pennsylvania. Currently, the composition of our group is people from all walks of life that have worked for some of the largest corporations in Philadelphia Pennsylvania including Police Officers and Prison Guards. Our group is operated by injured workers for injured workers and membership is FREE. We are dedicated to helping those suffering from Occupational/Accident Injuries in Philadelphia and surrounding areas by helping injured and disabled workers and their families find the resources and support they need to reclaim their lives.

Our group deals with all injuries. We are an advocacy group having knowledge regarding your Unions, Social Security, Attorney's, and Disabilities Issues. Our group is operated by injured worker's themselves because they have had positive and negative experiences that you as an injured worker can gain from as it pertains to your specific situation. From the knowledge that we have attained, we can share our experiences with you. Some of these experiences include meetings with attorney's, letters from your company, Independent Medical Exams (IME's), Workmen's Compensation claims and battles, etc. Not to mention the most important aspect, your physiological sanity worrying about your future and how you are going to support your family and pay the bills.

This brochure has been developed to serve as your starting point for exploring avenues of assistance that can and will help you during your journey. We work very closely with the entire staff here at Oxford Rehab to help you along during this trying time in your life.

Did you know that, every second, a worker is injured in the United States? A country where most people live paycheck to paycheck? What's more is that injury, illness, pain and disability don't just affect income, it damages relationships within families and drains the joy from our lives. The physical and emotional effects of this stress and isolation can lead to depression and mental illness. Our group focuses on the next stage of your life as an injured worker. By using our past experiences, we can help you regain the confidence, self-respect, and motivation to move on to that next level.

Our Goals say it all:

  1. We are here to offer education about your rights under the Pennsylvania Workman's Compensation Act
  2. To work on improving the living standards for injured workers and their families.
  3. To support all research that will benefit all injured workers and their families and reduce workplace injuries.
  4. To assist in safeguarding the full employment and economic security of injured workers and their families.
  5. To comfort and support injured workers and their families.

From time to time, we also invite guest speakers to come and meet with our group. These are: Attorney's, Financial Advisers, Medical Insurance Advisers, Physicians, etc.

We meet every Wednesday morning here at Oxford Rehab. Our meeting' begin at 9:30 a.m.

The world looks down on people, who have been injured or disabled, assuming that we are lazy, or taking advantage of the system. Insurance companies have shaped this stigma through decades of similar claims. As a result, injured or disabled people feel completely alone.

Please take advantage of this and plan on attending. Membership is FREE and believe me, it'll be one of the best decisions you've ever made.
